How our safety ratings work
Every destination on Safe Horizon Travel carries one of four ratings. They summarize the current U.S. Department of State advisory level alongside on-the-ground context — crime patterns, health notices, and practical risks that matter to American visitors specifically.
Normal precautions. No active U.S. State Department warning against travel.
Exercise increased caution. Petty crime or localized risks are worth planning around.
Reconsider travel. Review the current advisory before booking anything non-refundable.
Do not travel. Conditions are unsafe for American visitors.
Review cadence
Ratings are re-checked on a rolling schedule and immediately after a major advisory change. Each destination page shows the date it was last reviewed and links to the official advisory so you can verify it yourself before you book.
Our ratings are editorial summaries, not official guidance. Always read the current State Department advisory for your destination.
